Cinnamon Heart Ornaments

Holidays are steeped in tradition.  The smells, the sights, the events, the decorations all bring a host of memories with them.   While our family seems to make a tradition of never having the same traditions, there is one that I think will stick around--we love to create together.  Here's a simple recipe for the Pickles in your family to enjoy putting your hands together and making memories.  Cinnamon Heart Ornaments are easily mixed and baked, and make your home smell cozy and warm as well.

Cinnamon heart dough:  Mix 1 cup applesauce with 1 cup ground cinnamon.

Add a Tablespoon of glitter if it suits you.  (It suited the Pickles!)

Mix, mix, mix.

Gather rolling, cutting, and baking supplies.  Preheat oven to 200 degrees Farenheit.

Use your preferred method to roll or press dough into at least a semi-smooth surface for cutting.

Cut out shapes.  If planning to hang, use the end of a straw to cut holes.

Bake for 2 1/2 hours.  Cinnamon hearts should be completely dry.  Remove immediately to a wire rack to completely cool.

String and enjoy.
